Abstract

This paper examines the role of cybersecurity in protecting personal data by discussing its concepts, importance, key technologies and strategies used to safeguard information in digital environments. The study also highlights the consequences of weak cybersecurity practices and emphasizes the need for strong security awareness among users and organizations. By exploring existing literature and practical applications, this paper demonstrates that effective cybersecurity measures are essential for maintaining trust, privacy and safety in today’s interconnected world. Key findings revealed that poor cybersecurity can result in the loss of personal data and finance. Long-term effect is the loss of trust and reputation, as clients are not willing to associate with entities that do not have the capacity to protect sensitive data. The study concluded by recommending periodic training to minimize human error, use of multi-factor authentication and passwords amongst others as measures for strengthening cybersecurity for data protection.
